Working Groups
The residents of our dorm organize themselves in working groups to get different tasks done that help to improve the qualitiy of life around here. In addition to the Bar-AG, which takes care of our in-house bar, there are the following other working groups:
Ewash Team is responsible for ensuring that residents can use the washing machines and dryers. We are there to top up Ewash accounts by taking money from residents and adding it to their accounts. We also ensure that the washing machines and dryers are regularly maintained and repaired so that everyone can continue to use them. Anyone interested in joining the working group can simply write to a member of Ewash AG, as we are always happy to welcome new members!
Our Multimedia Team manages the following equipment:
- a projector
- a multimedia computer
- a 5.1 music system
- an HDTV receiver (DVB-C)
The Multimedia Team's equipment is permanently installed in our common room in House 16.
The common room can be used by any club member. From morning until 6 p.m., the room is reserved as a “study room.” The room has 10 workstations with their own lighting and power supply, e.g., for notebooks. In addition to the SaW Wi-Fi, you can also access Eduroam here.
There are restrooms opposite the common room so that residents do not have to walk all the way back to their own apartments, e.g., on the third floor of House 18, while studying. Our printer room is also only a few meters away.
From 6 p.m. onwards, the room can be used for watching movies and series together or as a place for a social evening. Our new poly rattan furniture has at least 9 seats.
Since 2016, our common room has had a split inverter air conditioning system.
The current contact persons can be found on the intranet or on the notices in the display cases.
The Network Team at Weißenberg ensures the smooth operation of the in-house network, websites, and printer. Each room is connected to the in-house network via an RJ45 socket. The entire dormitory has access to the German Research Network via the RWTH computer center, with a bandwidth of 1 gigabit/s.
Several access points are distributed throughout the dormitory, providing our own WiFi (SAW) everywhere. In addition, two eduroam access points are installed per building.
Information for future residents
Are you about to move into the Weißenberg student residence and wondering how you can get access to Wi-Fi as quickly as possible? You can find information on this here:
To use the dormitory's network, you must become a member of the “Studenten am Weißenberg e.V.” association. This association manages all student-organized facilities in the building, such as the network, Wi-Fi, laundry room, and tool rental. Membership applications and further information about the association can be found under the menu item “Verein” (Association).
By using the house network, you accept the rules of use and conduct as well as the rules for responsible use of data networks in the German Research Network, which you can also obtain as a copy from the Network Working Group or view at any time at the links above. Before the start of each semester, you will receive a reminder message by email with a request for payment of the membership fee for the next six months, or you can have it debited automatically via SEPA direct debit.
The printer
The Network Team also provides residents with the following equipment in the printer room in House 16:- A professional multifunction printer
- A binding machine
- A paper cutting machine
- A large hole punch
- A laminating machine
With the help of the devices in the printer room, you can, for example, carry out the following tasks directly in the dormitory:
- Printing scripts and theses at very favorable conditions
- Scanning documents (feed scanner; via email, USB, or SMB)
- Printing posters (max. DIN A3)
- Binding lecture notes
- ...
The current contact persons can be found on the intranet or on the notice boards. You can top up your prepaid account with the members of the Network Team.
We organize outdoor events, take care of the dormitory's barbecue, and have other ideas in the works! If you are interested, feel free to get in touch and join us!
Among other things, the Oven Club lends residents keys to use the oven rooms and baking utensils. Cooking and baking evenings are also planned: cheesecake, cookies in winter, and much more. If you would like to plan such an evening, join the club and plan these evenings together with others.
The ovens are located on the 1st and 3rd floors of buildings 16 and 18.
You can find the key holders for the oven rooms on the intranet.
The Social Media Team has been officially in existence since the summer semester of 2025. We manage the social media account on Instagram, uploading current pictures and posting important information. In the future, we will also be responsible for designing advertising posters when the Bar Club wants to organize a party. In addition, we make sure that the posters with relevant information in the hallway area of the dormitory remain up to date. We also have a few other ideas that we would like to implement in the club soon. If you are interested in joining or have any ideas, please feel free to send a group request on WhatsApp. We would love to have new members and fresh creative input!
